Plants with thorns, enticing fruit and toxins: Discusses toxicity, modes of poisoning and injury, and plants that might be problematic from garden plants to plants in the wild spaces. The “banes” (henbane, wolfsbane), Monkshood, moonseed, Grecian foxglove and the ever troublesome poison ivy and poison sumac. On to carrot family members such as hemlocks, wild parsnip and giant hogweed.
About Our Speaker: Dave Hanson
Dave brings a wealth of expertise to our group. With a Master’s degree in Urban and Community Forestry from the University of Minnesota and a career as an ISA Certified Arborist, he has spent years teaching plant identification to everyone from Master Gardeners and municipal employees to dendrology students. As a former Vegetation Management Specialist with MnDOT, Dave authored Minnesota Noxious Weeds and worked extensively to protect threatened and endangered species across the state. Even in retirement, he remains dedicated to his craft, honing his skills daily in the woods of Minnesota and the arboretums of the upper Midwest.
