Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom

1170 Hamline Ave No.
Saint Paul, MN

Welcome to the Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom. This outdoor classroom showcases restored historical features, eight native plant communities, accessible paved and gravel trails, and 27 interpretive posts.

The 27 Interpretive posts are equipped with QR codes where you can access information relevant for that location in a brief format; More detailed information for each Interpretive Post can be found in the Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom Guidebook, which is accessible on the City of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation website.

The Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom Guidebook was written in order to encourage educators and the general public to use this natural area to its fullest. Please feel free to explore these pathways and respect this environment by leaving no trace.

In early 2000s, local community volunteers approached the City of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Natural Resource Department and asked to form a partnership in order to remove trash and invasive buckthorn from this 17-acre site. Later, those same community volunteers joined with other project supporters to form an advisory committee dedicated to bringing their idea of restoring this woodland and developing this site into an outdoor classroom.

Today volunteer stewards maintain the Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom with the help and under the guidance of the City of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Natural Resource Department and a community advisory committee.

Big River Big Woods volunteers will adopt a section of the Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom in 2026.  If you are interested in volunteering for this project, contact Deb Robinson, Eco Steward and BRBW project leader, at her email: dmrobinsoncwoc@gmail.com
